Poems for February

In or Out?

The groundhog hides inside his home,
Warm and fast asleep.
When he wakes, he'll lift his head
And take a tiny peek.
If the sky is covered with clouds,
Then out the groundhog comes.
But if the day is sunny and bright,

Back into his hole he runs.

The Very Friendly Dentist

(Sung to the tune of "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider")

My very friendly dentist said, "Open up, real wide."
I opened up my mouth and he looked deep inside.
He saw my healthy teeth 'cause I brush them every day.
The very friendly dentist told me, "Your teeth are A-OK!"

President's Day

George Washington was our first president;
He was a soldier too.
Washington, D.C., was named after him,
When our country was brand new.

Abraham Lincoln was our 16th president.
He said people should be free.
He made our country strong for all,

Even for you and me.

Mr. Washington and Mr. Lincoln
Were both quite famous men.
Their pictures are on money now.
That makes us think of them.

Chinese New Year

It's time for Chinese New Year
Under the first new moon.
Fifteen days of celebration
Will begin quite soon.
The homes are cleaned and ready.
There's special food to make,
For this is a time to visit kin

With tasty treats to take.

Children receive red envelopes
From relatives who are kind,

Inside there's money for good luck
That little ones will find.

On the last day of celebration
You'll see a beautiful sight

When the Lantern Festival begins
To light up the dark night.

The Weather

Windy or stormy,
Cold or hot,
Rainy or steamy,
Snowy or not.
Winter or summer,
Springtime or fall

The weather keeps changing

And I love it all.
