Editor -Weekly Reader Corporation, one of the country's leading publishers of classroom periodicals and educational materials, seeks an editor for its award-winning periodical, Writing. This 24-page secondary school magazine aims to excite young people about the power of good writing. The editor will work with the managing editor and art director in planning, writing, and editing six yearly issues of Writing plus teacher's guide.
Responsibilities include:
Special Skills Necessary: Must be an excellent writer and voracious reader. Must be able to communicate complex issues in lively, clear, and concise prose. Expertise in writing methodology and pedagogy necessary, as well as the ability to present material in a kid-friendly fashion. Must be able to work quickly and meet short deadlines. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Quark XPress important. Respect for and appreciation of children and teens required. Minimum Education/Experience Required: Undergraduate degree in writing/journalism/English/education or related fields. Minimum 3-4 years in publishing/writing/editing/journalism.
