In celebration of all things spooky, READ welcomes you to a reading from the classic The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells.

Written in 1896, this science fiction novel features a mad scientist who does ghastly experiments on live animals. In this passage from chapter 3, the main character Edward Prendick encounters one of Moreau's half-man half-beast creations. Listen to find out what happens next.

The best effect was when the reader with "phelm" in his throat says "Who's there?"
Reader could have varied his voice a bit more.

I really like the effects... i think that the effects should have come more smoothly. For examlpe, the gravel, it was a little to sudden, if that part came a bit more slowely, it would sound more realistic. It was good! The music in the backround made it suspenseful and visual.

I really enjoyed this reading. The sound effects especially heightened the suspense. I kept wondering "What is this Thing?". I wish the reading went on to describe what the Thing was!
