I changed my contacts today. It's the first of the month. I always change my contacts on the first of the month. I'm somewhat of a stickler when it comes to that kind of stuff. They're actually two-week disposables but I like to stretch that out because it just feels great when I discard the murky, old ones and replace them with clean, fresh, crystal-clear eyes. That's what I have now. It's a wonderful new perspective. Anywho ...

We, the editors of READ and WRITING magazines cheerfully welcome you to WORD. Come on in! Have a seat! Would you like a cup of hot chocolate? Or are you drinking coffee these days? What is your beverage of choice when you curl up with a good book? What goes through your head when you're writing a story, an essay, or a poem? We want to know. Our goal has always been to aid you in your writing and get you excited about the printed word. Now you have a venue to speak to us. Our eyes are open and clear. This blog is here for you.

At the end of each blog entry, there is a button marked "Comments". See it down there? Wait, don't click it yet. When you're done reading this entry, go ahead and give it a shot. Tell us anything you like (preferably related to books or writing or anything in our magazines). Talk to us. We want to hear from you! Tell us how we're doing or how we can improve. If you'd like to submit a piece of writing, visit our student writing submission form and perhaps we'll post it on our site.

The categories on the right hand side will eventually be a home for individual entries. For example, this entry is filed under "Musings and Ramblings" because, well, I'm really just kind of going on and on about nothing to do with anything else. Hmm... sorry about that. :) But, for example, once we start having blog entries about writing tips... guess where those will be filed? You got it! The same goes for "cool links," "books and authors," etc.

As for the "Interactive Story"... that's my little pet project. Every second Thursday I will be posting a new part of a lonnnnng fictional story. (Part One will go up this Sunday). Part Two will go up September 15th, Part Three on the 29th and so on... all the way into June. Quite honestly, I have very little idea of where the story is going. So, I ask of you... no, I beg of you... I need your help! Read Part One and tell me where you think it should go. Help me write the thing! Clap your hands, boo, throw tomatoes, give me plot twists and character development. That's why it's called Interactive. Oh yeah, and I also need a title... but we can worry about that later.

That's it for now. Thanks for listening and don't forget to tip the waiter on your way out. Welcome, welcome welcome! Come back often! We have a lot to say. OK ... now you can comment!
