by Christina Cho (Na Yun Cho), Grade 7

I climb the oak tree
One so massive and grand

I look up to a higher branch
Where I see a tiny blue robin.

With such big eyes
It looks through mine

I climb higher
And touch the bird.

The robin chirps,
A painful one

When I see carefully,
I see its tangled wings.

Untangling its wings,
I swallow a lump.

The bird is free,
Please try to flee

Instead it looks through my eyes,
Sending me a deeper meaning

I nod my head
It flies away.
