Today is "Blame Somebody Else Day." Well, actually, I just googled it and found a bunch of sites saying that it's celebrated on April 14th. Contrariwise, I also found a bunch of sites confirming today. Who knows? In honor of the day, let me say that an editor that shall remain nameless (hint: not Melanie), told me about it.

It's not my fault! Ha.

Honestly though, Blame Somebody Else Day?!? That's like, the perfect excuse to not take responsibility for your actions.

"Not my fault, Teach."
"Oh really? Well then who's fault is it?"
"Um, I dunno... Jake's?"

Doesn't quite work though, does it? There's a weird holiday for every day of the year. I think we should have a national Stretching Day. Maybe there is one, I don't know. But if not, someone should definitely get on this. Nothing like a good stretch to make everything comfortable. Although maybe a whole day of stretching would be silly. But there should definitely be some kind of recognition.

Did you ever stretch for 5 or 10 minutes straight? If you use a computer for any reason, be it research or email or chatting or surfing or writing or... working through an extended session of writer's block, stretching revives you. And not just your back and your arms either. Try stretching out your fingers and see what that does for your typing ability.

Try writing something, anything. Then take a stretch. Take a long stretch. Stretch til you think you can't stretch anymore. Aim for the ceiling and spread out your toes. Become a giant in your own room. Then come back. Try re-writing the same bit you just wrote. It doesn't have to be any certain length--as short as a paragraph. But I think you might be surprised. See if you don't write something even better, maybe longer. Most times, after a great stretch, you can have an entire new perspective on your words. You're less scattered and more focused.

If you try it, let us know. Show us what you produced. The Before and The After. We'll post the best.

But if you slack off or give up, take responsibility and try again. Jake's sick of playing the scapegoat.
