One of the things I like best about traveling is the chance it gives me to make surprising discoveries.

In Montreal, Canada last weekend, I stumbled across "Je Lis Montreal - I Read Montreal," a neat photography exhibit along the banks of the Atwater Canal. Since April 2005, eight photographers have been taking pictures of book stores, libraries, and other unimaginable places where a person can grab a book and relish its contents. These photos are part of an exhibit that honors UNESCO'S designation of Montreal as "World Book Capital City" in 2005-2006.

The photos that I saw near the Atwater Canal (some are pictured here) showed kids, men, women, and dogs, and fish all savoring the pleasure of books and words. They made me pause to ask myself: What is my favorite place to read a book?

The answer: Under the shady boughs of a gigantic tree.

What's your favorite place to read a book? Let us know!
