The world events of today shape our future in every way, from how well we understand one another to how healthy we keep our planet. Current Events gathers the most important and unique news stories into a magazine written and designed for students. Our readers don't just learn facts, they learn to think critically about the influences within their world and about their own responsibilities to make this a better world for everyone.

Issue 7 News Updates

  • Early voting has started in many states, and voting machine problems are springing up. In West Virginia, at least eight voters complained that they pushed a button for Obama but that their vote was switched to McCain instead. Election experts are also concerned about whether states will be able to handle what is expected to be a huge voter turnout on Election Day.

  • The White House announced on Oct. 22 that President George W. Bush would host a meeting on the global financial crisis with the leaders of the European Union and 19 industrialized and developing countries. The meeting will be held in the Washington, D.C., area on Nov. 15. That first summit will focus on the immediate financial problems. French President Nicolas Sarkozy says follow-up summits will address “rebuilding the international financial system and making sure the current crisis does not happen again.”
