Poet's Corner

November/December

My Senses
These are my eyes that let me see;
This is my tongue that tastes for me.
These are my ears that help me hear;
My hands and skin feel things that are near.
This is my nose that helps me smell.
My senses teach me very well!
-Cynthia Cappetta

A Day To Remember
Near the end of November
When harvest is done,
Comes a day to remember
With thanks and with fun,
A day full of pleasure
And Thanksgiving praise
For the good without measure
That brightens our days.
                        -Aileen Fisher

Thanksgiving
“Come to our feast,”
The Pilgrims said,
“Wild turkey and maize
With yams and bread,
Nuts and wild berries,
Pumpkin pie, too.
We’ll give our thanks
And welcome you.”
For our Thanksgiving,
Grandmother said,
“There’s turkey and corn.
Sweet potatoes and bread,
Cranberries, nuts,
And pumpkin pie.
We’ll feast like the Pilgrims
In days gone by.”
                        -Carol Quinn

Healthy How-To
Staying healthy means eating right,
Getting plenty of rest every night.
Washing your hands before you eat,
And dressing well for cold and heat.
Seeing your doctor once a year,
Exercising, and breathing fresh air.
Covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze,
Good health is as easy as A, B, C.
                        -Marie E. Cecchini

Holiday Lights
Different kinds of December lights
Brighten up the cold dark nights.
Christmas lights, around a door,
Hanukkah lights, each night one more,
Kwanzaa lights, glowing with pride,
Homes with happy people inside.
Through the dark and through the night,
Holiday lights make spirits bright.
                        -Cynthia Cappetta
