Issue 2 - Reading Comprehension Skillsmaster
Issue 2 - Reading Comprehension Skillsmaster Answer Key

Issue 2 of READ magazine is Monsters. This is our first electronic issue of the season and you can get to it by clicking here or by going to

www.weeklyreader.com/monsters.

This issue of READ explores many different kinds of monsters, in many different times and places. Our feature Center Stage play travels way back in time, approximately 1,500 years back to the story of Beowulf, the oldest known English text. Adapted by Wim Coleman, our play in three acts covers Beowulf's fight with Grendel, Grendel's mother, and finally, the Dragon. Monsters aplenty! Be sure to check out Bryon Cahill's exclusive interview with the hero himself.

If that's not enough, this issue of READ includes an excerpt from John Gardner's famous novel, Grendel. Grendel is a retelling of Beowulf from the monster's point of view. We invite you to have some sympathy for the beast.

Our nonfiction piece by Owen Foley provides a geographic and historical account of dragons throughout the world. Check out some great pictures, and lots of information about these ubiquitous and fascinating monsters.

And don't forget to check out our electronic LSI, a breakdown of the famed Lewis Carroll poem, Jabberwocky.

Please enjoy this special electronic issue of READ magazine. If you have any comments, questions, concerns, or if you just want to say hello, you can write to us at read@weeklyreader.com. And don't forget to check out our literary blog, WORD, at www.readandwriting.com!

Sincerely,
The Editors at READ Magazine
