Time to Grow
In this issue of ScienceSpin, the world of plants will open up to your students. They will learn the parts of a plant. They will also read about some dangerous plants. Ouch!
The A-maze-ing Bean Plant
Demonstrate how plants grow toward the light with this activity. Create a maze out of an old shoebox by attaching smaller pieces of cardboard within the box. Place a small pot with a young bean plant at the bottom of the maze. Cut a hole at the top of the maze. Cover all other openings. Open the box only to water the plant. While watering, invite students to observe the progress the plant is making. The plant will grow around the maze toward the light coming from the hole.
