Welcome to ScienceSpin Early Primary!

Can You Find Me?

In this issue of ScienceSpin, students will learn how some animals use color or shape to help them hide from other animals. Students will also learn how the coats of some animals change color so that they can blend in with their surroundings.

Links

  • Read about camouflage and mimicry on this Nature Works site.

  • Find the hidden animals in four featured environments on this site.

Activity

  • Ask students to name some of their favorite wild animals. As a class, brainstorm ways those animals use color or shape to stay safe.
  • Have a scavenger hunt! Divide students into groups. Give each group a different object that can be easily camouflaged in your classroom. Have students find places to hide them. Then have students try to find the objects. How was each object camouflaged? Were the objects hard or easy to find? Why?
