Doing More

Special sanctuaries in the U.S. may help the thousands of chimps used in research and in other ways, but they can do little to help chimps in Africa to preserve their natural habitat.
What, do you think, can African countries do to preserve chimps' habitat?

Many experts consider chimpanzees to be the smartest members of the animal kingdom.
Have students research chimpanzee behavior and present evidence of why this claim may
be true. Then have students research other highly intelligent animal species. Ask: Which
animal do you believe is the smartest? Why?
