War in Gaza

 

Have students research the formation and history of Palestine and Israel. As a class, discuss the origins and causes of conflict in the region. What is each side fighting for?

Break students into groups to research key figures and players in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, such as Ehud Olmert, Ariel Sharon, Mahmoud Abbas, Fatah, and Hamas. Have students share their findings with the class.

Have students research the latest developments in Gaza and write their own news updates.

Have students write journal entries from the perspective of an Israeli or Palestinian teen. How does the conflict affect their daily lives?
