Get Out of 'Gitmo'

Have students take a poll of their own classroom. How many support Obama's decision? How many oppose it?

Have students research the use of presidential executive orders in history. Possible topics include President Harry Truman using an executive order to integrate the armed forces; President Eisenhower's edict to desegregate schools; and Presidents Kennedy and Johnson issue executive orders to bar racial discrimination in federal housing, hiring, and contracting.
