After Sledding
The moon is golden.
Stars are bright.
But there’s no sweeter
Winter light
Than simple kitchen-
Window glow
To call me home
Across the snow.
- Eileen Spinelli
The Opposite of a Poem
Some days I want to write a poem
And some days, the opposite.
Some days I want to stroll and roam
And some days, the opposite.
Some days I lie in bed and dream
And some days, the opposite.
But poems always make me scream,
AAAAaaaaiiiieeeerrrrgggghhhh.
- Eric R. Hermann
January 1
It’s fabulous, remarkable,
It’s odd,
It’s strange,
It’s queer
Now just last night and yesterday
Already
Are
Last year!
- Leland B. Jacobs
The Snowman
My feet are cold
My nose is too
but my heart is warm
With love for you.
- Pauline C. Peck
Martin’s Wish
Martin Luther let freedom ring
For people of any color.
Dr. King thought that we
Should learn to respect each other.
- Marie E. Cecchini
Mr. Groundhog
The groundhog saw his shadow
And said, “It must be night.
I think I’ll go and sleep some more --
Six weeks will be just right.”
-Virginia Niles
Dr. King
Dr. King believed in America
The land of the free
And that all the people here
Should be treated equally
For you should not judge a person
By the color of their skin
Instead, you should get to know
The person that’s within.
- Sheila Forsyth
A Hearty Chat
“Thumpety thump,
Bumpety bump.”
“What makes that noise?”
“A real live pump?”
“You’re kidding me!”
“I’m not! The pump’s
Your heart, you see.”
- Connie Unsworth
Money
I have a dollar,
A dollar to spend
I have a dollar,
A dollar to lend
A dollar, oh my!
I have a dollar
What will it buy?
- Pauline C. Peck
