About Ears

We use our ears
for hearing things
like drums and cuckoo clocks,
       and chickadees,
               and thunderstorms,
and bells, and clangs, and knocks.
                  - Vivian Gouled

Summer Safety

Keeping safe in summer
Means taking special care
When you’re near the water
And when your feet are bare.

Sun-block will protect your skin
From the burning sun.
But while you’re being careful,
Don’t forget to have some fun!

-          Sharon Siegelman

Star

One lone star, far and high,
One lone star sits in the sky.
One lone star, diamond bright,
Gives its welcome to the night.
One lone star on velvet spread,
Gently hints it’s time for bed.
                  - Leland B. Jacobs

At the Library

It’s fun to look
for a special book
And then to sit
And look at it.
You turn the pages one by one
Until your special book is done
And then --
                    go find another one.
                  - Sharon Siegelman

Who Are They?

I know a beast
That’s hard to beat,
With just one toe
On each four feet.

I know a bird
That’s big and fleet,
With just two toes
On each two feet.

Who are they? (a horse, an ostrich)

-          Aileen Fisher

Raindrops

Taste some raindrops
When you play
Outside on
A rainy day.
One, two, three drops
In a trickle
Give your tongue
A raindrop tickle.
                  - Carol Quinn

      Listen

Busy little bees,

You flutter to and fro,

Visiting the flowers,

To help the garden grow.

When you’re busy working

I know that summer’s here

Because your buzz-buzz-buzzing sound

Is all that I can hear.

                  - Marie E. Cecchini

A Ziggedy Riddle

It’s black and white

And white and black

With ziggedy stripes

From front to back

All up and down

From head to toe

And around and around

That’s how they go

It lives on the plains

In a land that’s hot

And looks like a horse,

But, of course, it’s not.

What is it?

Answer: a zebra
