Summer Poems

Summer Safety

Keeping safe in summer
Means taking special care
When you’re near the water
And when your feet are bare.
Sun block will protect your skin
From the burning sun.
But while you’re being careful,
Don’t forget to have some fun!

—Sharon Siegelman

Swim Safely

(To the tune of “Jingle Bells”)

Summertime, summertime,
Let’s go for a swim.
Never, never swim alone,
Always bring a friend.

—Marie E. Cecchini

Summer Fun

The yellow sun up in the sky,
Shining brightly way up high,
Makes it warm for outside fun,
To play in the yard and run, run, run,
To swim, or hike, or read, or fish,
Or have a picnic, if you wish.

—Marie E. Cecchini

Faraway Stars

At night the sky grows darker
And when it’s very clear
Tiny spots of light come out,
Then stars start to appear.
Stars are different temperatures
And different colors too.
Some are red or yellow
And some look almost blue.
While gazing you may notice
That some stars are real bright.
They may make simple patterns
In the big dark sky at night.

—Deborah Garmon

Reading

I like to read books.
I can read anywhere…
On a sofa, or hammock,
Or comfortable chair.
I can read on the grass,
In the library, too,
Or just on the floor,
As I so often do.
Wherever I read
I have a good time.
I could read in a tree
If I had one to climb!

—Vivian Gouled
