Poet's Corner

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a special time
When we should stop and think
About the good things in our lives
Besides the food and drink.

We’re thankful for our homes and friends
And loving families.
There’s much more to Thanksgiving Day
Than “Pass the turkey, please.”
- Sharon Siegelman

Holiday Candles

Candles standing straight and tall
(Stand, hands on head, fingers pointing up like wicks.)
Waiting in a row.
Hanukkah is coming soon (Or Christmas, Kwanzaa)
Then they’re going to glow.
Light the candles one by one. (Teacher “lights” wicks.)
What a pretty sight.
Slowly getting shorter now, (Shrink down slowly.)
Glowing warm and bright.
- Sharon Siegelman

Eating Colors

We eat blueberries and brown bread,
Peas that are green, apples of red,
Yellow bananas and pink ham,
Tasty black olives and purple jam,
Orange carrots and white rice.
Isn’t eating colors nice?
- Cynthia Capetta

Giving Thanks

For food and for the roof above us,
And Light and warmth and
Those who love us,
We give thanks.
- Aileen Fisher

Kerchoo!

When you have a little sneeze,
Do you know what to do?
Grab a tissue from the box,
And catch your big KERCHOO!
- Marie E. Cecchini

Volcanoes

When magma reaches earth’s surface
It becomes a lava flow.
Then lava, ash and steam pour out
And form a volcano.

Lava can move quickly
Or it can be real slow.
But if you see it coming
Get away from its hot flow.

Erupting volcanoes are active
Dormant ones sleep a lot
But extinct ones can get very cold
They will never again be hot.
- Deborah Garmon
