Hello READ subscribers!

If you are new to READ, welcome! If you are a returning subscriber, welcome back!

In each issue, we bring you an exciting feature called Literary Scene Investigation (LSI).  In LSI, we analyze the work of a famous writer by searching out clues to the techniques used in his or her writing. This graphically-lively interactive format will introduce your students to essential literary elements, improve active reading skills, and turn kids into literary detectives!

In addition, each issue of READ features Center Stage--our popular readers' theater plays. Based on classic novels and contemporary works, our adaptations bring literature to life as your students act the parts. Readers' theater activities have been proven to increase fluency, build vocabulary, and engage student interest.

Be sure to tell your students about WORD: The Official Blog of READ and WRITING magazines. Serving as Weekly Reader's literary blog, WORD (now in its third year) strives to bring your students literary news, book reviews, writing tips, general musings on life, and most importantly, a place where students can share their own writing. We post student poetry, stories, and nonfiction weekly and readers can comment on any piece. It's a great way to get students excited about the written word!

As always, we welcome your feedback about our issues. Please write to us at read@weeklyreader.com. The Internet offers us new forums for communication and education and we're here to make sure your students get the full package. Encourage your students to visit our Teen section for games, contests, fun, and information.

Thanks again for using us in your classroom and we hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Bryon Cahill
Editor, READ magazine
