Each issue of Writing comes with a a Teacher's Guide that offers you lesson plans, reproducibles, and classroom activities which meet NCTE/IRA standards.  Additional reproducibles are added to this online library each month and are available for download and circulation in your classroom.

In The Seven Basic Plots: Why We Tell Stories, by Christopher Booker, the seven basic plots of storytelling are identified as: 1. overcoming the monster 2. rags to riches 3. the quest 4. voyage and return 5. comedy 6. tragedy 7. rebirth. Ask students: Can you think of a famous story that falls into any of these categories? Then have them map out a favorite story using the "Story Map" graphic organizer.  Download.
