Folktales
The Flying Head was a truly grotesque monster. It was a gigantic head without a body. It had sharp fangs and thick skin that protected it from weapons. Wings sprouted from either side of the Flying Head’s cheeks. No living thing was safe from its wrath.

One night, a young woman sat in her home with her baby. Everyone around her had run away to hide after from the Flying Head, which had been spotted nearby. But this woman didn’t run away. She knew that someone had to finally face the monster.

She sat by her fire, heating several large stones until they glowed. Soon enough, the Flying Head appeared at her door. She acted as though she didn’t see it and pretended to be cooking a meal. Then the woman made believe she was eating the hot stones. She pretended to put them in her mouth.

"These are delicious!" she proclaimed. "This is the best food I’ve ever had!"

Hearing this, the greedy monster immediately entered her home, opened its mouth and swallowed all the glowing rocks in one gulp. As soon as the Flying Head ate the hot stones, it let out a horrible cry. The screams of the Flying Head shook the great trees and made the earth tremble.

At last, the monster flew off and the people felt safe. The Flying Head was never seen again.
