Kevin Munroe has been a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles since they first appeared in comic book form in 1984. In fact, he owns the first edition of the comic book series. He says he loves the combination of action and humor. That's why he wanted to make TMNT the movie. After working for years in the animation business, he thought Computer Generated Imagery would be the way to go. For the past 10 years, Munroe has animated everything from video games to TV series for Disney, The Cartoon Network, The Jim Henson Company, and Nickelodeon. Warner Bros. new film TMNT is his first shot as a movie director.

Fast Facts about Kevin Munroe
  • Kevin is already working on his second film, Gatchaman, based on the Anime series better known in the United States as Battle of the Planets.
  • He worked on the Dark Horse Comics series El Zombo.
  • He is author of two graphic novels. Olympus Heights is a funny adventure story set in an Indiana town inhabited by Greek gods. El Zombo Fantasma is about a zombie Mexican wrestler.
  • Movies that influenced him most growing up include Ghostbusters, Lethal Weapon, and Die Hard, all of which are action films written with a sense of humor.
  • As a kid, he created space ships and retrofitted a hockey helmet with a visor to emulate his heroes on G-Force Guardians of Space (also known as Battle of the Planets).
  • His animation work includes the video games Midway and Freaky Flyers.
